Stockings and Rag Garland
Pattern and Instructions for a tied-rag garland and stockings designed by Charlotte Beck.
Ain't That Cute is also the name of Charlotte's television program seen in the midwest U.S. which features a different crafting or craft sewing project in each episode. The program has won 2 Philo Awards for best instructional video in a 5-state region and 3 ICE awards for commitment to local programming.
STOCKING: (patterns below)

- Cut 2 (one reverse) of the stocking and the top stocking border strip.

- Cut a square of fusible webbing slightly larger than the decorative design you have chosen.

- Trace the design onto the paper backing of the fusible web. Follow the the manufacturer's directions. Fuse the square of web with the design on it onto the fabric you have chosen to use. Cut out the design. Peel off the paper backing and fuse the design onto the stocking body.

- Embellish the front design by adding a button, drawing, or decorative stitching.

- With right sides facing, line up the top border with the stocking body. Stitch 1/4" from the raw edge of the top and body. Repeat for the back of the stocking.

- With right sides facing, line up the edges of the front and back stocking pieces and stitch along the outer edges using a 1/4" seam allowance.

- Turn the piece so that right sides are facing out. Fold 1/2" of the top border to the inside of the stocking. Hand stitch or glue into place.

GARLAND:

- Cut a piece of twine 4" longer than the finished swag.

- Make a fold at each end about 2" long and tie it into a knot, leaving a loop for hanging.

- Cut fabric strips 2" x 6". Each strip will take up 1/4" on the garland so the length of the twine will determine how many strips you will need. For example, and 18" garland will take 72 strips. You can experiment with the strips to make it more or less full.

- Tie each strip of fabric into a knot around the twine, centering the knot on the fabric strip. Repeat for each strip of fabric

- Use a safety pin at the top of the back seam of the stocking to attach it to the garland. Space the stockings evenly along the garland. PATTERN PIECES enlarge or reduce the pieces below
