HEART CHATELAINE
Pattern and instructions compliments of Ain't That Cute

pattern to be added later

Materials: 1/4 yard of material or fabric scraps
                   9" x 9" batting
                   9" x 12" interfacing
                  18" ribbon
                  20" cord or braid
                  small amount fiberfill

Use a 1/4" seam throughout. Cut out the pattern pieces A & B

1. Fuse or stitch the interfacing to the wrong side of the pocket "B".

2. Fold the wrong sides of the pocket together. Topstitch or machine embroider 1/4" from the top edge. Add any embellishments to the pocket at this step.

3. Embellish the top portion of the heart that will not be covered by the pocket. The back embellishment should also be added at this step. Bulky or delicate items can be added later.

4. Position the pocket in place on the heart front. Stitch the edges of the pocket to the heart front.

5. Position the hanging cord using the dots on the pattern as a guide. The cord should be inside the heart with the ends facing the outside edge. Lay the batting over the right side of the heart & pocket piece & cord. Next lay the heart back over the batting, right side facing the batting. Stitch around the heart piece, leaving an opening for turning. Make sure the stitches catch the cord ends.

6. Clip the curves as shown on the pattern. Carefully turn the piece right-sides out and handstitch the opening closed. Topstitch or machine embroider around the outside edge for stability.

7. Make a buttonhole at each end of the 18" ribbon. Sew a button near or inside the pocket to attach the ribbon to the heart. Sew a button 1" from the buttonhole on the other end of the ribbon. Insert through the thumb-hole on a small pair of scissors and button the ribbon around it.

NEEDLE CASE:

Cut 2 of the double heart patterns from felt. Line them up and stitch them together where indicated by the dotted line on the pattern.

PINCUSHION:

Cut 2 of the heart pincushion from fabric. With right sides together, stitch around the edge leaving an opening for turning. Clip the curves where indicated. Turn the piece right-sides out. Stuff with fiberfill. Handstitch the opening closed.

This basic design lends itself to many variations and sewing techniques...cross-stitch, ribbon embroidery, quilting, heirloom sewing, machine embroidery, applique, personalization, etc.
