To My Daughter

The moment I laid eyes on you and
and crowned you with your name
I knew my life was different and
Could never be the same...

Memories of ringlet hair
Racing past my eyes
Baby cries to boyfriends...
Skinned elbows and mud pies...

I guess I didn't realize
How fast that time would fly
I turned around to touch you
And heard you say "good-bye"

I guess those days of parent and child
Had to come to an end
But the end was a beginning
For you've become my friend.
